The Pincher Crab, also known as Death Crab, Pincer Crab, or Steamed Crab, is a recurring enemy in the Mana series. Most often depicted as a red crab, it hurls it claws at its opponent to attack. It is one of the more common enemies encountered in the franchise.

General Information[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

Pincher Crabs are large, red crustaceans that walk sideways just like their real-life counterparts. They can be recognized by their large droopy eyes and their tough outer shell. When confronted, they fling their detachable claws and can cast some magic to boost themselves up. Some games even makes the creature emulate some of the Fullmetal Hugger's attack.

Attributes[edit]

Pincher Crabs are commonly encountered near or at large bodies of water, such as lakes, beaches, oceans, etc. Some may even be found in forests or caves, provided there is enough moisture for them to thrive.

The crustacean is generally strong against Undine spells and weak against Jinn or Salamander, although they are some exceptions.

Variants[edit]

Pincher Crabs have a few notable stronger members of the crab family.

  • The Clincher Crab, also known as the Metal Crab, is a grayish variant of the Pincher Crab.
  • The Dark Pincher Crab is a rare evolution of the Pincher Crab only appearing in Sword of Mana. They replace the regular species once the player has defeated 1,000 of them.

The Death Crab is only seen around Westlake and in the Subterranean River. Its relatively high attack can quickly hinder the hero should it throws its pincers at him. Fortunately, its slow speed makes it relatively easy to take it down with a Thunder spell or item, and yields medium experience and gold upon defeat. Its main purpose is to drop the rare Bacchus's Wine, one of the only two enemies to do so.

In Adventures of Mana, Death Crabs move quite faster than before but are less aggressive.
