Artwork of an evil sword from Rise of Mana

The Evil Sword, also known as Dainslaif, is a recurring enemy in the Mana series. It is an sentient, enchanted sword capable of hovering and moving of its own volition. They made their debut in Final Fantasy Adventure.

General Information[edit]

Physical Description[edit]

Earlier depictions of the Evil Sword were simply a levitating blade able to thrust down its foes by itself. Starting with Legend of Mana the enemy gained an eye on its crossguard and its blade design became more cury and jagged. The blade is sometimes colored dark blue, but is most of the time white. The possessed weapon is able to cast multiple saber spells onto its blade to better exploit their enemy's weaknesses.

Attributes[edit]

Evil Swords thrives in ancient structures such as castles, temples, towers, etc. They are also fond of gathering where evil is permeating the premises, as their name would surmice.

In some games, Evil Swords have a natural affinity with the Wind element while they are resistant against Moon spells in others. Conversely, their weaknesses vary even more so, with some installment making them fear Dryad, while others are easily defeated with Shade or Gnome spells.

Variants[edit]

Evil Swords are known to come in a few variants.

  • The Doom Sword, also known as Element Sword, is a stronger version of the Evil Sword. They are often resistant to elemental damage.
  • The Dark Dainslaif is a powerful variant of the regular Dainslaif. It only shows up after defeating 1,000 Dainslaifs.
